Chocolate Lava Cakes Recipe


  • 4 ounces (115g) high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa), chopped
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Non-stick cooking spray


  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Grease four ramekins with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate and butter together in 20-second intervals, stirring each time until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and stir until smooth.
  6. Fold in the all-purpose flour and salt until the batter is well mixed.
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  9. Carefully run a knife around the edges of the cakes to loosen them, then invert each cake onto a plate.
  10. Serve your Chocolate Lava Cakes immediately, dusted with powdered sugar or topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
