Classic Scones Recipe: Perfect English Tea-Time Treat

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup raisins or currants (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, and raisins or currants (if using) until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick round and use a round cutter to cut out scones.
- Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy with clotted cream and jam!
