German Apple Sheet Cake
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups peeled, cored, and chopped apples (about 2-3 apples)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Mix in Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with the sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
6. Fold in Apples and Nuts (Optional):
Gently fold in the chopped apples and, if desired, the chopped nuts and raisins.
7. Bake:
Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
8. Cool:
Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack.
9. Make the Glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
10. Glaze and Serve:
Drizzle the glaze over the cooled German Apple Sheet Cake. Slice and serve. Enjoy your delicious homemade German Apple Sheet Cake!
